Eligibility and Involuntary Transfers: Students may be assigned to the Community Day School program under the following conditions (Education Code 48662):
Expulsion: Students expelled for any reason, with priority given to those expelled for mandatory expulsion offenses under Education Code 48915(d).
Probation Referral: Students referred under Welfare and Institutions Code 300 or 602.
SARB or District Referral: Students referred by a School Attendance Review Board (SARB) or other district-level processes.
Individualized support: Students receive tailored instruction and assessments designed to meet their unique academic and personal needs.
Collaboration with agencies: The program works closely with county offices of education, law enforcement, probation, and human services to address the needs of at-risk youth.
Low student-teacher ratio: Ensures more personalized attention and effective learning.
Academic rigor: The curriculum is comparable to that of regular district schools, with a minimum of 360 minutes of classroom instruction each day.
This program is a crucial component in ensuring that students who face significant challenges can continue their education, receive the support they need, and successfully transition back into a regular school setting.
