Career & College Planning
At Wheatland Union High School, we prioritize Career Planning for our students. While most will pursue Post-Secondary Training (like Trade Schools, Colleges, or Universities), every student will eventually have a career. We work with each student to create a personalized Skills-Based Education Plan to help them achieve their desired career and live the life they envision. We are not just a "Career OR College" school—we prepare students for both.

Community College Applications
The California Community College system uses "Open CCC" as a system for applying to all CA Community Colleges. Once a student is registered with Open CCC, they can then apply to any CA Community College. To apply, visit any Community College Web site and click their "Apply Now" button. The system will automatically walk you through the Open CCC process and issue you an Open CC ID number, then redirect you back to the specific Community College page and the application for that school (where you will receive a Student ID# for that particular school). Once registered for a particular school, you can then register for classes. You may attend classes at more than one Community College at a time.
You can also access the Open CC Application by Clicking Here and then clicking on "Enroll Now" in the menu at the top of the page.
SAT & ACT
As of January 2022, the University of California and California State University systems will not consider SAT or ACT scores for admissions purposes. Students may, however, submit scores to be used for placement purposes. Private and out-of-state colleges may still require these exams for admission. Be sure to check with individual universities to find their current requirements. In addition, some scholarships may also still require SAT or ACT scores for application.
How To Afford College
What is the FAFSA?
The term "Financial Aid" refers to a number of different ways in which a student can acquire funding for higher education.
Grants: Need-based. Usually granted based on level of income and may come from the Federal Government, the State in which you are attending school, or from the individual school. The amount may vary from year to year based on the family's financial status.
Loans: Need-based and MUST be paid back.
Work-Study Programs: or Self-Help. The student will work part-time on campus and the employer will contribute to the cost of Tuition, book, or living expenses.
Scholarship: Merit-based, some are 1-time and some are renewable for multiple years. Merit = achievement. May be based on GPA or Community Involvement. Some are granted based on attributes or life situations.
