PIRATE FOCUS
Guide Your Children to True Career Success
Step 1 - Self Assessment
Step 2 - Career Exploration
Step 3 - Career Planning
Step 4 - Education & Training Plan
Our Pirate Focus class does this all!
All Freshmen are enrolled in Pirate Focus. We also have Upper-Class sections of Pirate Focus for students who transfer into WUHS after Freshman year or who need credit recovery for the course.
It is articulated with Yuba Community College's Couns 25 for college credit.
Please encourage your student to fully engage and participate in Pirate Focus!
Wheatland Union High School is a Get Focused Stay Focused (GFSF) School. Every freshman is assigned to "Pirate Focus", a life planning and career exploration class that shows students how to create a 10 Year Plan for Life Success. The class is highly relational and especially individualized to each student from all walks of life. We also have Upper-Class sections of this course for students who transfer to us after their freshman year or are in need of credit recovery.
Our teachers attend in-depth training to assist the students in the 10-Year Plan process. Students revisit their plans in their 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade social science courses for the opportunity to review, revisit and revise their plans. Counselors assist students in their academic plans based on the student's own individual career goals as set in the GFSF process. Our CTE & College Readiness Center offers one-on-one support for students as they revise their plans and reset their goals.
WUHS is a 3-year recipient of the Gold Medal Award for GFSF Implementation from Academic Innovations and has been highlighted as a "Best Practices School" at Academic Innovations and GFSF Conferences since 202
