Video Production

This hands-on and engaging pathway covers everything from Film to Television/Streaming and even social media techniques and skills for future TikTok and YouTube influencers! Learn how to create a professional media product by engaging in projects that will improve your camera operation, editing, cinematography, animation, VFX, SFX and more! Watch movies in class and see how media evolved over the past 100 years. You will even have opportunities to produce live-sports broadcasts in our state-of-the-art Mobile Production Trailer! In addition to this work-based learning, students in this pathway will compete in SkillsUSA competitions, as well as the Student-Emmy Awards hosted by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

Description: A comprehensive career and life planning course. Students complete the course with a 10 Year Plan for success, a Skills-Based Education Plan, the beginning of a Professional Portfolio, and a sense of relevance for their high school courses. In the context of a study of the changes that occur during a typical life span, each student will construct a personal profile of current and projected interests, aptitudes, skills, values, personality, and life and personal circumstances.

Description: Fall: This course will provide students with an introduction to camera operation, cinematography & lighting, sound engineering, editing, live streaming, distribution and pitching concepts to studios. This course will also cover the evolution of digital media in America, techniques and methods for quality media production, as well as working with clients/community members. Students will also learn how to create professional materials to support television and film production. Spring: This course will provide students with intermediate skills in camera operation, cinematography & lighting, sound engineering, editing, animation, visual effects and career exploration in the film and television industries. This course will also directing and producing styles, techniques and methods for quality media production. Students will also learn how to create professional materials, efficiently engage film festivals, plus much more.

Description: (From Yuba College Catalog) MCOMM-14: Advanced technical operation and creative use of television studio equipment. Techniques of production, use of cameras, lighting, sound, titling, video recording, and video switching effects. MCOMM-17: Advanced creative use of electronic field video production while using multiple cameras to produce live or archived television events, such as, sporting events, theatrical and musical productions, and entertainment or informational programs. Much of class time is devoted to “on location” production.

Through the planning and execution of numerous events for the school's Skills USA chapter, students will discover how best effect change in their communities. Students will read about the nature of leadership and its different styles in business. Students will complete Work-Based Learning projects to achieve award status in Skills USA in Regional, State and National levels

Skills USA - Students enrolled in the Video Production Pathway, are eligible to participate in this Career Technical Student Organization that is recognized by industries across the nation as a way for student to gain employable skills and develop into great leaders.
